That’s right! Iron & Earth is forging a new assembly of like minded individuals who want to shape the narrative of energy sustainability in Edmonton and help advocate for a just transition for workers.

We’re starting an Edmonton Chapter!

Why a Chapter in Edmonton?

Iron & Earth launched publicly a little over a year ago in response to falling oil prices, job precarity for the skilled trades and to  advocate for the need to meet the environmental commitments Canada made in the Paris agreement of 2016.

Forged in the heart of the oilsands, we are a worker led organization occupying a unique position in the energy conversation of Canada. A voice that is advocating for the utilization of workers, their skills and the machinery of our current energy sector to help build and prepare our workforce, communities and infrastructure for the energy needs of the future.

In order to achieve this we need to maintain an authentic representation of our membership and to elevate their thoughts, opinions and desires to a wider audience. The chapter model is our way of galvanizing members, supporters and stakeholders together to become leaders and a positive influence in their community.

It’s a place for people to come together, share ideas, learn from experts, improve their skills and look for opportunities to improve their community.

To date we have two successful chapter in operation, one in St.John's Newfoundland and Labrador, the other in Calgary. Although in the early stages they have already proved to be an invaluable resource in developing shared ideas, vision and progress within their communities. And the feedback we get from our members in these chapters has been empirical in keeping the vision and focus of the organization in line with our membership.

Edmonton is currently the hotbed of energy discussions in Canada and its imperative that we, as an organization, have the voices and opinions of our members heard. The starting of the Edmonton Chapter will be the first step for Iron & Earth to establish a significant presence in the city.

This a great opportunity for the organization and the city to bring members, supporters and stakeholder alike together to communicate, collaborate and instigate real change in Edmonton.

How do I get involved?

In the coming weeks we will be reaching out to the Edmonton community in search of inspired volunteers to help formally establish the chapter, but if you would like to express your interest at this stage please drop us a line, we can’t wait to hear from you!

This is an exciting period in our organizations development and we want to share it with you. So drop us a line and come along for the ride!

Iron & Earth is committed to partnering with Indigenous workers to empower their communities to become self-sufficient in training programs, clean energy transition projects, and employment opportunities to combat environmental racism. It falls to all of us to continue the work of healing and reconciliation in our communities and our organizations. Our relationship with the land and the people who live here shapes who we are. It is in the spirit of reconciliation and honouring the past that we recognize treaties and agreements wherever they are and wherever we work.

We also acknowledge all peoples who live, work, and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
As individuals and teams we may make mistakes along the way, but we are dedicated to growth, openness, compassion, and forgiveness. These principles in our work are essential to building successful and healthy relationships with individuals, communities, organizations, and governments.

We look forward to building a path to lead us to a better relationship with Indigenous nations and the environment around us based on peace, friendship, and respect.
